Every day each and every one of us engages in some form or another of communication. Maybe you talked to a coworker, or sent a peer an email, or sent a buddy a text. No matter what form it takes, communication is a part of life. Because it consumes so much of our culture, the way we communicate has a lasting impact on ourselves and those around us. We can encourage, tear down, inform, deceive, create beauty. Art, in the variety of forms it takes, does this in a uniquely precious way. The accomplished artist exposes powerful emotions with a single brushstroke, an elegant chorus, a beautiful word. Our nature craves this powerful connection, and thus I am excited to have the opportunity to learn to create beauty, to create connections.

In the artistic department, I have never been the best illustrator, the best painter or anything along those lines. In my life, art takes two forms that impact me the greatest. The first of these is my words. The ability to communicate ideas, share emotions and give a story with eloquence have always been something I cherish. As these are important to me, I also love to read works from others. The second form is music. I love to listen to music whenever I can, and my favorite genre is alternative. More than listening to music I love making it. I’ve been singing in choir since before I can remember, and I dedicate much of my free time to writing music on my guitar. These are two of the biggest aspects of my life, and I can’t imagine living without them.
